Arno: met Jean-Marie Aerts hebben we ook als mens en als gitarist de ideale man gevonden. Het idee om samen te werken ontstond op het feestje dat de Kreuners gebouwd hadden om hun eerste single te vieren. Ze hadden mij gevraagd om een liedje mee te zingen en Jean-Marie was als hun prodjoeser ook uitgenodigd. Tussen hem en mij klikte het meteen, hij is tenslotte ook een kustjongen, en korte tijd nadien stonden we al voor het eerst op het podium…
Jean-Marie: ik ben heel blij dat ik die keuze gemaakt hebt, na één week repeteren spettert het enorm bij T.C. Matic. We hebben trouwens al nieuwe nummers die velen zullen doen opkijken…

Jean-Marie: met T.C. Matic hebben we alleszins een reeks platenfirma’s afgezeuld. Onbegonnen werk. Ze weten niet wat ze er zouden moeten mee aanvangen, zeggen ze. Niet commercieel, zeggen ze. Natuurlijk is wat wij doen ‘niet commercieel’! Maar vertel mij nu eens: wat betekent dat: ‘commercieel’? De muziekappreciatie is toch voortdurend in beweging: onze muziek zal misschien binnen drie jaar heel vertrouwd klinken… — Het Nieuwsblad 1981
The continental sound is finally rivaling that of the British Isles. No more are the European bands pale carbon copies of the English neighbours. Instead we have substantial explorations into new realms of music and thought. The Belgian group T.C. Matic are at the forefront of this movement. They are Bauhaus with more soul, Joy Division with more joy, and Material with more innocence. The highlights on this album (their first) are the swinging “Stop Rock”, the funky “Bye bye till the next time” and the stinging “I’m not like that”. This record may be hard to find (you may have to ask your local disk shop to order it), but it’s worth the effort. — Face Up / USA-Columbus/Ohio 1982
